Arabia has executed 47 criminals, including leading Shiite Muslim cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, the country’s state television said.
The state-run Saudi Press Agency and state television announced the executions on Saturday, quoting the Interior Ministry.
The SPA published a list of 30 names and said more would follow.
The country’s Interior Ministry has said most were involved in attacks carried out by al Qaeda from 2003 to 2006.
They also included prominent Shia cleric Sheik Nimr al Nimr, who had called for democratic reforms.
Saudi Arabia carried out at least 157 executions in 2015, with beheadings reaching their highest level in the kingdom in two decades, according to several advocacy groups that monitor the death penalty worldwide.
