Finding Dory’s reign at the top of the US box office has been brought to an end by another animal-themed animation.
Universal’s The Secret Life Of Pets hit the summit after taking $104.4 million, replacing its Disney rival which spent three weeks at number one.
Comedians Kevin Hart and Louis CK voice characters in The Secret Life Of Pets, which cost $75 million to make.
The Legend Of Tarzan was at number two in its second weekend in cinemas, taking $21 million and bringing its gross to $81.8 million.
Finding Dory, the sequel to the 2003 hit film Finding Nemo, sank to third place with $20.8 million.
The weekend’s other opener, the raunchy comedy Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates, was in fourth place after earning $16.6 million against a $33 million budget.
The Purge: Election Year completed the top five with $12.4 million in its second week.
