The True Spirit of Christmas

Must read

By Deborah Thomas

It is Christmas 2015 and it comes with a mixed bag of emotions for several people. It has been a wonderful year for some while it has been a truly devastating one for others.

What a year it has been for millions of people all around the world! From the ongoing wars in the Middle East to the extreme weather chaos in different parts of the world. We have seen the devastation caused from the Nepal earthquake alone, claiming over the 9000 lives and over 500,000 people displaced.

Syria has seen over 250,000 lives lost with millions seeking refuge in countries otherwise strange to them. One can only imagine how scared the children refugees must be, especially after been chased out of their stable homes.

Running out of their countries with little or no belongings travelling the oceans on dodgy boats, walking through borders of one European country to another. It must be hell on earth for them and they truly deserve some compassion.

Looking back the years, one can observe the True Christmas Spirit has been lost and just hearing the phrase ‘ Merry Christmas’ is fast becoming very faint to the ears.

Merry Christmas

My understanding of the true spirit of Christmas is endless and regardless of your religion or faith, the Christmas holiday is truly a time we should embrace life. Regardless of your situation and no matter how difficult it may be right now.

The most important aspect of Christmas is giving, sharing of love and hope for the future. As ridiculous as this may sound, your first step to getting the true spirit of Christmas starts here with you reading through this article.

Giving

It is very easy to confuse ‘Giving’ to just giving money. Just looking around your homes, you would be surprised that there is always one or two items you do not need that someone elsewhere would appreciate.

Remember all those impulse buys of clothes that don’t fit, that you have squeezed into hoping that you can get in after a miraculous diet? Only to find that you are far away from that goal.

What about those shoes that kill your feet and I can tell if you continue wearing them, you will end up with far worse problems like horrific bunions.

Or the stacks of furniture choking up your living room and bedroom that prevents you from walking around freely in your home.

Sharing Love

This is the best time of year to share and give love to many people. Love is the only free gift that money cannot buy. It is understandable that some people are not into any of that emotional business but picking up your phone and ending that long feud that has consumed the life out of you will definitely help your heart. Sharing a joke or two with family, friends and neighbors would make a difference.

Christmas is all about cooking, eating silly, drinking and being jolly but remember there are several homeless people on the streets, some due to no faults of theirs. They could do with some of that roasted potatoes and turkey sandwiches you have floating around the kitchen.

Hope for Tomorrow

Congratulations to you that you have managed to read up to this point. This simply tells me that you already have hope for a better tomorrow. Remember, when there is life, there is hope.

I have my new diary for 2016 and have a clean slate and would love you to join me with a fresh start for 2016!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas.

  1. Happy New Year to you. I eventually called my mother and settled our long years of feuding and somehow I feel much better. Thanks so much
