Virologist confident British nurse with Ebola will ‘pull through’

The British nurse who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone has spent the night at the Royal Free hospital in London, where she is undergoing treatment for a third time.

After her initial recovery she fell ill again in October last year and was treated for meningitis caused by Ebola.

Doctors say Pauline Cafferkey has now suffered a “late complication” from the deadly disease.

Virologist, Professor John Oxford is confident she can get better: “Its sometimes, more often than not, the symptoms that come on six months later, not because the virus is still there active, it’s just the effects of the virus damage, a year before.

“So that’s why I am optimistic that good nursing care will pull her through and she will come out of this.”
