Volkswagen has reportedly suspended its research and development chiefs following the emissions scandal.
Those leading future projects for its VW, Audi and Porsche brands have apparently been put on leave.
All three have declined to comment, but Audi has said this morning that 2.1 million of its diesel cars contained software allowing them to cheat US emissions tests.
They are the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5.
Volkswagen has previously admitted that around 11 million cars were affected in all.
