Sigourney Weaver will return to Ghostbusters 3 – but only if her on-screen son can join in.
The Alien actress would gladly reprise her role as haunted home-owner Dana Barrett in the forthcoming third instalment, provided there’s a part in the script for her character’s offspring, Oscar, who was kidnapped by the ghouls in the second movie.
“The one thing I said is that I’ll do it if Oscar, my little son, can be a Ghostbuster, and I think (director) Ivan Reitman liked that idea,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
She added: “I saw Bill Murray at the Scream Awards, and he said we’re gonna do it, but I’m not sure. I think no-one’s really read a script. But I’ve talked to Ivan Reitman. He definitely wants to do it. There was a script that was being rewritten as of about a year ago.”
The original team of Ghostbusters – Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), Bill Murray (Peter Venkman) and Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler) – are reported to be returning, with a new generation of ghoul-fighters including Bill Hader and Anna Faris.
Dan is working on the script with screenwriters Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.
“We have a strong first draft that Harold and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it,” he has said.
