Serena Williams (World No. 1) faced Heather Watson (British No. 1) in the 3rd round of Wimbledon Women’s Singles today and beat her 2 sets to 1.

The first set, Williams cruised passed Watson with her serve being the biggest component of her offense. Watson was unable to retaliate.

However, it was during the second set that frustration began to settle in as Watson found her stroke was able to give Williams her toughest matchup this summer.

Roared on by the British crowd, Watson won the 2nd set 6-4.

During the 3rd set, Serena Williams beat through the frustration and continued on to win the set 7-5.

Williams told reporters. “How I pulled through, I really don’t know. I just was like, listen, if I’m going to go lose, I’m going to lose trying to do the right things.”

Serena will be playing her sister Venus, who beat her opponent Aleksandra Krunić 6-3 6-2, in a fourth round matchup.

“It’s unfortunate that it’s so soon,” said Serena Williams. “But we’re going to do the best that we can. I mean, she’s my sister today. She’s my sister next week. She’s my sister next year.

“I think that’s a little more important than a match. We’ll leave everything out on the court. When it’s done, we’ll go back to regular life.”
