Colin Firth has been nominated for a best actor Oscar for his role as stammering monarch King George VI in The King’s Speech.

Golden Globe winning actress Natalie Portman also received an Academy Award nod for her role in Black Swan.

Brits Helena Bonham Carter and Christian Bale were nominated for their supporting roles in The King’s Speech and The Fighter respectively.
