Court rules Uber app legal for use

Must read

The British High Court’s ruled the minicab-hailing app Uber does not break the law.

London’s black cab drivers have complained it operates in the same way as meters, which are banned in private hire cars in England’s capital.

If Uber had lost the case there would have been serious implications for how they run their app in London as they would have to comply with rule that protect black-cab drivers.

The case was brought against Uber by Transport for London (TfL) who claimed the Uber app was being used as a taximeter.

This would have been a problem as a taximeter is only allowed for black-cab drivers after extensive training.

Transport for London had asked judges to clarify.
