Cowell lookalike features on single

Must read

Simon Cowell lookalike Andy Monk, 51, who performs as Simon Carol

After years of dishing out advice to showbiz hopefuls, Simon Cowell’s own talents will finally be open to public scrutiny.

But it is not the music mogul himself who has released a Christmas song, but rather his lookalike, Simon Carol.

Andy Monk, who has spent over a year performing as Carol, has recorded A Christmas Cowell, along with the rest of his lookalike group The Chippendoubles, which will be released on December 13.

Mr Monk, 51, from Nottinghamshire, said the proceeds raised from the song, which is accompanied by a video featuring various celebrity lookalikes including Louis Walsh, David Beckham, Ricky Gervais, and a cameo appearance from the real Brian Harvey from East 17, will be donated to CLIC Sargent, a charity that supports children suffering from cancer.

Mr Monk said the idea came from the group’s David Beckham lookalike and that everyone involved donated their time for free.

He said: “It’s a really chirpy, catchy, memorable Christmas song in the style of the ones from the 70s or 80s perhaps.

“Shakin’ Stevens, Slade, that sort of thing because we thought that was lacking this year so we wanted to add that flavour to the charts.”

Mr Monk, who works as a sound and lighting engineer by day, has appeared on Britain’s Got Talent with the rest of The Chippendoubles, which is made up of the lookalikes of Cowell, Will Smith, Gervais, Gordon Ramsay, Mr T, James Bond and Beckham, and said Cowell was a fan of the impression.

“He really enjoyed it,” Mr Monk said, “Simon said that it was one of his favourite acts, which is praise indeed from Mr Cowell, I think.”

The song is available for download on iTunes and the video can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_dR8ylnq-Y.
