Emma prefers being anonymous

Must read

Emma Watson may be one of the most famous faces in Britain, but the actress admitted she actually prefers being anonymous.

The Harry Potter star, who reprises her role as earnest Hermione Granger in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1, admitted that is one of the reasons why she chose to study at Brown University in the US rather than a British university.

“It’s very freeing, it felt like a fresh start – I’m not a local celebrity in the States: people know about Emma Watson in the UK whereas in the States, they really only know about Hermione Granger,” she said.

“I’m more anonymous, and it’s a good feeling. I’m actually quite a shy person, believe it or not, so I find it quite hard to deal with being famous sometimes so it is a nice break.”

Emma revealed she is fortunate to be able to enjoy a life out of the spotlight.

“I do occasionally get asked out. I’m not seeing anyone at the moment but I was when I first went to Brown,” she said.

“Fifty per cent of the time, the papers have been wrong about who I’ve been dating so it’s actually quite nice. I don’t mind them writing about me as long as it’s not true.”

The 20-year-old is also enjoying her new pixie haircut. “It’s liberating and amazing. I’ve entered a new phase of my life and put the character to bed,” she added.

“But people are disappointed I don’t look like Hermione any more.”

:: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 opens in cinemas on November 19.
