Fifa members can be trusted to choose the best country to host the World Cup, David Beckham says.
As England’s 2018 bid gathered momentum ahead of the vote on Thursday, Beckham told a news conference that he, along with Prime Minister David Cameron and Prince William, met a number of the 22 Fifa executive committee members involved.
“I think that we can trust every one of the members,” he said. “At the end of the day, they are football people and they are going to want a World Cup in the best country that they think could host the biggest sporting event in the world.”
He added: “Everything has been positive so far. We have just been listening to the feedback and what they feel we need to push.
“We’ve done everything possible to put ourselves in the best position possible.
“It’s just about putting the icing on it.”
