A manhunt is under way in France for four thieves who have stolen a large shipment of gold from an armoured truck before setting it on fire on a major motorway.
A national gendarme service spokesman said that police have rescued the two drivers from the flaming truck thanks to a tip-off from a witness.
Police vehicles and a helicopter are searching the surrounding area, near the A6 highway near the town of Dardilly.
Calling such attacks extremely rare, the spokesman said they stole dozens of kilogrammes of gold.
With gold selling at about €35,000 a kilo, the value of the theft could top €950,000.
