Intensive care flu cases double

Some 460 people were being treated in intensive care in England for confirmed or suspected flu

The number of people in intensive care with confirmed or suspected flu in England has risen to 460 – more than double what it was a week ago.

Statistics released by the Department of Health (DoH) on December 15 showed 182 people were receiving intensive treatment for flu.

As of Friday, there were 460 patients receiving the same level of care.

The new figures for flu cases are in keeping with what is expected for this time of year, the DoH said.
