French President Emmanuel Macron refused the resignation on Monday of the country’s prime minister, Gabriel Atal After the shock chaotic election results leaving government in limbo. Mr Macron asked Atal to remain temporarily as the head of the government until the parliament is confirmed.
French voters have divided their legislature among the left, centre and far right, with no single political faction getting close to the majority needed to form a government.
The risk of political paralysis is looming for the European Union’s second-largest economy.
