Mr Burns has his voice back: Harry Shearer will return to the Simpsons after all

Must read

Excellent news from Harry Shearer, voice of Mr Burns in The Simpsons – he’ll be back in the role of the evil nuclear power plant boss after all.

Two months after announcing he was leaving the show, the actor has agreed to return to voice Simpsons favourite Mr Burns, as well as Ned Flanders, Smithers, Seymour Skinner, Lenny, Dr Hibbert, Reverend Lovejoy and Otto.

Back in May, Harry put out a series of tweets indicating he was quitting the long-running cartoon. The row appeared to have been about whether he was free to pursue other projects during time off from The Simpsons.

With Harry having made the dispute public on Twitter, key figures from The Simpsons were drawn into the row, with executive producer James L Brooks tweeting: “Harry, no kidding, let’s talk.”

The argument appears to have been resolved, with executive producer Al Jean tweeting to clear up a “misunderstanding”, apologising to Harry for asking him to work during a period when he “believed he had a five-week free period from The Simpsons”.

The actor is one of six original voice actors for the cartoon, which has been running since 1989. Production of the 27th season had already started without him.
