Nicolas Sarkozy promises REFERENDUM if he is elected president

Must read

The former president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, had proposed a referendum on stricter anti-terrorism policy if he is elected. He also stated that Hollande did not do ‘enough’ to prevent terrorist attacks in France.

Sarkozy also proposed that he detain terror suspects without trial.

He said: “If I win next year’s presidential election, I will hold a referendum on whether dangerous terror suspects can be held in preventive detention without trial in June 2017.

“These people need to be locked up before they are able to launch an attack. Once they are in police custody, we will be able to find out whether they pose a threat to public security, or whether they can be trusted and let go.”

He lated blasted his left-wing rival, Francois Hollande, on his poor effort in preventing terrorist attacks in France.

He told French television station France 2: “Mr Hollande wanted to impose a 75 per cent supertax on earnings above €1m (£860,000), do you not think that Americans based in France were sceptical then?

“I doubt they felt reassured. But, like Barack Obama with Mr Trump, as outgoing president, I was forced to congratulate him on his win, even though we all knew his five-year term would be a train-wreck.”

Critics carefully noted that he would NOT have his own EU referendum, which is heavily sought after by French Nationalists. Some have said that the president-hopeful, Sarkozy, had only entered the race to pick away potential voters for National Front leader, Marine Le Pen. After the sudden election of Donald Trump, and predecessor being Brexit, the French nationalists have gained a very large increase in popularity.
