Charlie Crist is looking to pardon long-dead rocker Jim Morrison

Outgoing Florida Governor Charlie Crist is looking to pardon long-dead rocker Jim Morrison, who was convicted of exposing himself at a raucous concert in Miami in 1969.

Morrison, from Florida, was lead singer with 1960s rock band The Doors.

He was appealing against his conviction for indecent exposure and profanity when he died in a bath in Paris in 1971 at the age of 27.

Mr Crist told the St Petersburg Times that the more he looked into what happened that night, the more he thought it was right to seek a pardon.

Morrison was fined and sentenced to six months in jail but never served that time.

Mr Crist, a Republican-turned-independent, lost his bid for a US Senate seat earlier this month.
