Pope Francis tells teens in Rome they won’t find happiness in their mobile phones

Must read

Let’s just take a moment to remember that Pope Francis is on Instagram.

Yes, that is him joining in with a group selfie.

However, as much as he seems to love having a steady social media presence, the Pope has told teenagers gathered in Rome – during a three-day long celebration dedicated to youth – that they need to get off their phones, basically.

He reportedly told the teens during mass (and there’s a sample on an Instagram post): “Your happiness has no price. It cannot be bought and sold: it is not an application you download on a mobile phone.

“Even the latest version cannot help you to grow and become free in love.”

Well, he obviously hasn’t used the latest Snapchat filters that much then has he.

Around 70,000 teenagers were in St Peter’s Square in Vatican City for the weekend of events – they’re celebrating Francis’s Jubilee year dedicated to the theme of mercy.

As well as the advice on technology, 16 teenagers also had the unexpected opportunity to confess their sins to Pope Francis.

Meanwhile, a video message from him was even broadcast at a rock and rap concert being held in the Stadio Olimpico.
