A violent scuffle between pro-government and opposition lawmakers in the Ukrainian parliament has left legislators bloodied and bruised.
Lawmakers from President Viktor Yanukovych’s Party of Regions stormed the parliament podium late on Thursday after it had been blocked by legislators from Yulia Tymoshenko’s party protesting a corruption probe against her.
Mr Tymoshenko’s party said six lawmakers sustained serious injuries, including concussions, a fractured jaw and multiples bruises. Four remained in the hospital on Friday.
The Party of Regions confirmed the fight and said its members were not injured.
It said pro-Tymoshenko lawmakers had started fights in the legislature in the past.
Scuffles are frequent in the Ukrainian parliament, but Thursday’s was the most violent.
