Taylor Swift’s juggernaut of an album, 1989, has continued to rack up huge sales figures – and has now been crowned the fastest-selling album in a decade.
According to data from Nielsen Music, 1989 has sold more than five million copies since its release 36 weeks ago, reaching this milestone more quickly than any album in the past 10 years.
The previous album to reach the milestone that quickly was Usher’s Confessions, which took 19 weeks to hit five million in 2004, according to Variety.
Taylor has now blown past Adele’s 21, which took 42 weeks to hit sales of five million in late 2011.
It’s a record-breaking week for Taylor: earlier this week, her music video for Blank Space became the fastest video to top one billion views on Vevo.
