Three teenagers have died after a head-on traffic collision.
South Yorkshire Police said the incident happened on Monday night just outside Mexborough when the driver of a silver Vauxhall Corsa crashed into a VW Golf.
The Corsa driver and his front seat passenger, both teenage males, and a 16-year-old girl who was in the rear seat, died in the collision.
Another teenage male who was in the rear of the Corsa suffered serious injuries and was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The Golf driver, an elderly man, sustained minor injuries.
A police spokesman said the collision happened when the Corsa was overtaking a silver Fiat Punto on Adwick Road travelling out of Mexborough towards Adwick-upon-Dearne near the junction with Crow Tree Lane.
A Vauxhall Astra had just overtaken the Fiat successfully.
The Corsa then tried overtaking the Fiat.
The police spokesman said: “Before it could complete the manoeuvre the Corsa collided head-on with a Volkswagen Golf travelling in the opposite direction.”
The collision took place just after 8pm on Monday.
