Two people have been killed and three others injured in a shoot-out between police and suspected drug traffickers in a Rio de Janeiro slum frequently visited by tourists.
The G1 news portal said the firefight in the Complexo de Alemao slum began last night when heavily armed criminals fired on police investigating a report that an unidentified man was being beaten up.

G1 said today that two suspected traffickers were killed. Two police officers and an adolescent boy were injured.
Complexo de Alemao has long been a hub for criminal activity. It was occupied by police in 2012 as part of an effort to clean up and boost investment in more than 1,000 shanty towns in metropolitan Rio.
