Uber and British AI firm Wayve launch Robotaxi in London

London’s driverless taxi future is here.

Uber and British AI firm Wayve officially launched London’s first commercial robotaxi service on September 3, 2026. They are offering the UK’s first commercial robotaxi rides in London. Passengers requesting UberX, Uber Comfort or Uber Electric can now be matched with an all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E running Wayve’s camera-and-radar AI Driver.

A licensed human safety driver remains onboard at all times under current Transport for London rules. The initial fleet is small about 15 vehicles and fares match regular Uber prices with no extra charge. Riders get an in-app notification and can decline the autonomous option.

Uber beat Waymo to a public launch in the city, though full driverless operation still requires further regulatory approval expected no earlier than 2027.
