The winner of the US X Factor is set to bag a 5 million dollar record deal, thought to be the biggest guaranteed prize in television history, TV bosses have revealed.
Fox executives said auditions for contestants on Simon Cowell’s talent show will begin on March 27 in Los Angeles.
The contest – which the entertainment mogul left American Idol in part to concentrate on – will air Stateside next autumn.
Since its debut in the UK in 2004, the show has been a successful format in several other countries.
Simon will be an on-air participant in the US version of The X Factor, which Fox advertised during Sunday’s Super Bowl. Other judges have not been announced yet.
The winner of the inaugural American edition will get a recording contract with Syco, a joint venture between Simon and Sony Music.
