Cameron praises 'Movember' drive

Prime Minister David Cameron praised the Movember charity drive

Thousands of men growing moustaches for charity have been praised by David Cameron.

The Prime Minister hailed those participating in “Movember” – which sees men grow hair on their top lips during November to raise awareness and money to fight prostate cancer – during his weekly session of questions in the Commons.

But Mr Cameron stopped short of pledging to take part next year after being encouraged to do so by Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart (Edinburgh West).

Sporting his own Movember moustache, Mr Crockart called on the Prime Minister to congratulate almost half a million men worldwide who were on track to raise £25 million.

He added: “Given how good we look, would you consider joining us next year?”

Mr Cameron congratulated Mr Crockart on his “magnificent specimen” of a moustache, adding: “I think it’s absolutely right to raise awareness about prostate cancer, I think this is a very good charitable move.

“I can see that some of your neighbours have followed your example, as have some of the people in my protection team.

“They are all to be commended for raising awareness about this real killer that we need to do more about.”
