Gore Verbinski is to direct Lone Ranger, it has been reported.
The American filmmaker – best known for helming the Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy – is saddling up for the Disney feature, which will see him reuniting with Pirates star Johnny Depp.
Johnny is attached to play the Lone Ranger’s sidekick Tonto in the big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series, reported Deadline.
It is not known who will play the title character or when production will begin.
Gore has completed his first animated movie, Rango, where his favourite leading man lent his vocal talent to the title lizard.
He is also directing a remake of the 1985 black comedy Clue, which has a tentative release date for 2012.
