Eva Longoria has announced her divorce from Tony Parker, while revealing on Twitter “we still love each other deeply”.
The Desperate Housewives actress and US basketball star are ending their marriage “with great sadness” after three years.
Eva’s close friend, TV host Mario Lopez, said of reports that the San Antonio Spurs player had been unfaithful to the actress: “Eva wants everyone to know, she’s devastated by the rumours of Tony’s infidelity. She loved her husband and is heartbroken about their split. But she’s strong.”
Eva confirmed the divorce by tweeting: “It is with great sadness that after seven years together, Tony and I have decided to divorce. We love each other deeply and pray for each other’s happiness.”
The actress has filed court papers to divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and is said to have cancelled her November 21 appearance at the American Music Awards.
The couple married in July 2007 in a Roman Catholic ceremony in Paris, after meeting at one of the player’s basketball games when she was invited back to the team’s press room. He is said to have not known that she was famous.
In the divorce filing, the actress requested that her name be restored to Eva Jacqueline Longoria. She had taken Tony’s name when they married.
The filing also stated the couple had a prenuptial agreement.
Eva asked the court to require each side to pay its own attorney fees. She also wants to receive spousal support from Tony but not pay any to him.
The actress was previously married to soap star Tyler Christopher but the couple split in 2004 after two years.
