A ceremony at the Grand Mosque in Paris has been held to honour the memory of Muslims who fought for France in the First World War.
Defence Minister Herve Morin and Veterans Affairs Minister Hubert Falco took part in the ceremony, one of several official events marking the 92nd anniversary of the end of the First World War.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy also revived the eternal flame on the tomb of the unknown soldier, beneath the Arc de Triomphe in the French capital.
Some 3,000 people turned out to watch the ceremony.
About 1.4 million people were killed or went missing in France during the First World War, including many Muslims from France’s colonies in North Africa.
The last French veteran of the First World War died in March, 2008.
