Vatican Rules Out Ordaining Female Deacons

Must read

The Vatican has ruled out female deacons, stating that it:

‘rules out the possibility of moving in the direction of admitting women to the diaconate understood as a degree of the sacrament of Holy Orders’

The Vatican has released the summary of a study commission on the female diaconate in which it says the issue remains open while acknowledging historical research showing that the ministry of female deacons was not understood to be the simple female equivalent of the male diaconate.

“A purely historical perspective does not permit any definitive certainty,” says commission president, Cardinal Giuseppe Petrocchi. “Ultimately, the question must be decided on the doctrinal level.”

The Vatican concludes that they are done with discussing women deacons after nearly 10 years of renewed study.

Deacons are ordained ministers who perform many of the same functions as priests, preaching, performing wedding funeral ceremonies but not allowed to celebrate mass
