Moisturize the dry skin: Moisturizing the skin immediately after bathing benefits the body oils to a greater limit. During winters, one should replace all their routine creams with deep enriching moisturizers to protect their skin from piercing winter breeze. Moisturizers can prevent the skin from getting dry, hence protecting the scaly skin. Anti-itchy, oily skin, dry skin, and many other types of body butters and moisturizers are available in the market, and one is advised to choose according to their original skin type. It will soften the cracking skin. With low water level in skin, natural process of exfoliation and hydration doesn’t occur and make skin more prone to inflammatory skin diseases.

Keep your body hydrated: A dehydrated body can also cause your lips to crack and chap. So, during the winter months make extra effort to keep your body well hydrated. This can be done by drinking ample amounts of water daily. One should drink about ten glasses of water daily and eat more fruits and vegetables that are high in water content.

Skin boosters: Girls who cannot follow routine measures for good skin health due to their tight-packed lifestyles can opt for skin boosters to replenish moisture content in their skin. Restylane Vital is the perfect option to keep skin elastic and glowy. The modern day dermal filler — Restylane Vital — does the wonder in just some minutes and in a very simple way. And the best thing is that the effect does not last a few days. The glow and softness that come with the hydrophilic hyaluronic acid (that promotes water retention and absorption) stays for up to a year. When injected into the upper layers of the skin, Restylane Vital deeply hydrates and nourishes it. Hyaluronic acid gel is implanted into the outer layers of the skin using microinjections and it works naturally to hydrate the skin from within, making the skin soft and radiant.

Don’t miss out on the sunscreen: Many girls have the misconceived notion that sunscreen is required in just summers to protect the skin from harmful UV rays that cause tanning, burns and skin itching. But it is equally important to apply sunscreen in winters. It is advised to apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to all the exposed areas of the body evenly to counter any skin damage. The bridesmaids have the plate full when it comes to outdoor works, so it is imperative for them to not ignore applying sunscreen.

  1. While washing your face, use a mild cleanser and rinse with lukewarm water.
  2. Avoid antibacterial soaps, alcohol-based toners, wipes or colognes.
  3. Apply a water-based moisturizer while your skin is still damp to seal in moisture before it’s lost
  4. It is essential to use a good moisturizer packed with paraben free, ceramides and oatmeal to lock the water in skin and keep it hydrated.
  5. For oily skin, moisturizing is essential in winters. Hyaluronic Moisturizing Serum works wonders by replenishing the skin moisture
  6. Avoid stepping into the hot and strong sun as it evaporates the trans-epidermal water and makes skin dry. Also avoid stepping out in extremely cool and windy weather
  7. Add emollient oil to bath water (1-2 drops per bucket of water)
  8. Apply moisturizing sunscreen on exposed body parts 20 minutes before stepping out in the sun. SPF 30 with moisturizer protects against both UVA and UVB
  9. Wear cotton clothes instead of nylon or synthetic material. Wear woolens above cotton clothes to avoid skin irritation
  10. Body massages with coconut or almond oil are important at least once a week. You can also opt for a quick 5 minute massage with almond and Vitamin E oil. This alleviates the redness and leaves the skin soft and supple
  11. For severely chapped lips, use a mild lip scrub followed by a mild steroid cream prescribed by your dermatologist to get immediate relief from chapped lips

Hair care during winters

  1. Use mild moisturizing shampoo and condition hair every time after shampooing.

  4. Avoid using heated appliances as much as possible. Using a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron dries hair out even more in winter
  5. Cover hair with a cotton scarf while travelling
  6. Trim the split ends

Few winter care myths busted:

  1. Overzealous application of moisturizers (cold creams) especially on face should be avoided as over-application could clog the pores.
  2. Frequent hot water baths may feel relaxing and warm in winters however they tend to dry the skin and cause irritation. It is advisable to take short showers with lukewarm water not more than twice a day.
  3. Petroleum jelly dries soon after application and requires frequent application. It is advisable to use lip balms with natural oils like Vitamin E, almond, chamomile, jojoba oils and fortified with sunscreens.
  4. Dandruff is caused by fungal elements which are part of our natural scalp flora. They need the right trigger to aggravate. A dry scalp is one such trigger. Moisturize the scalp with coconut oil on regular basis and use a medicated leave on cream or shampoo with anti- dandruff properties.

So continue celebrating the good life. Hope your New Years resolutions are in place, Cheers to a new you!
