Hathaway still on for Garland film

Anne Hathaway isn't sure that she'll be singing in the Judy Garland film

Anne Hathaway has said she is still on board the forthcoming Judy Garland biopic.

The Golden Globe-nominated star has been tipped to play the famed screen legend in the big-screen adaptation of Gerald Clarke’s biography, Get Happy: The Life Of Judy Garland.

She told BBC Radio 4’s Front Row that everyone wants to ensure the film does Judy justice, saying: “It’s a very sensitive project and there have been so many stories told about her life that we’re really trying to get it right. So we’re taking our time with it.”

Anne added: “I know it seems like it’s sort of an endless process but it’s very, very slow incremental steps. I had a meeting about it a couple of weeks ago and we’re all very motivated.”

Gerald’s biography covers the tragic singer’s life extensively, including her battle with drug addiction, her relationship with pushy stage mother Ethel, multiple marriages and infidelity.

Anne – who next stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Love And Other Drugs – hopes the production kicks off within the next two years, and might be showcasing her vocal talent.

“I certainly don’t sing like Judy Garland but the talk is to have me do the singing,” she continued.

“But I think people might cry murder if they don’t get to hear Judy’s beloved voice so the talk is for me to sing but I don’t know if that’s exactly what will happen.”
